Am not a big phone person, so I don't use it much.Got a Verizon cell phone and am not happy with it. Any advice on which phone and plan may be the best??

Verizon phones really suck. In some sense, all carriers are terrible and it is down to the best of the worst.
Since you do not use the phone much, t-mobile might be the best. It is cheapest of the bunch and have decent simple phones (Nokia) that work well.
